Sheffield Steel – Harry Brearley

In Sheffield there is a mural near to the train station, on the rear of a building on Howard Street. The building split in two, and is (or was) a Pub, ‘The Howard’ at the front,  and a Nursing Agency at the back. Here is a mural to Harry Brearley who was a metallurgist  who invented stainless steel. Truly Sheffield was the famous for Stainless, it is a little bit of a shame that that fame has fallen a little by the wayside.

The mural is hard to miss, as I was lining this shot up a woman asked me who the picture was of. I had to be honest and say that I did not know, but I guessed it would possibly be someone from the Steel industry. She said I was probably right and would look it up. Lucky guess! I hope that the back of the building is maintained like this, and not white washed.
